Travel Throwback...Quebec City, Canada

Two summers ago, my family headed north to the beautiful city of Quebec, in the Quebec province of Canada for a few days. I had been to Montreal before, but never Quebec City, and I was oh so pleasantly surprised.

This city screams old Europe, the cobbled riverside streets reminiscent of Germany or France. We couldn't believe our eyes when we first drove into the city and this greeted us.

The city sits next to the St Lawrence River, and the views across it are spectacular.
Wasting no time, we checked into our room and sped out to explore the area around the hotel. We weren't disappointed. Beautiful stone buildings were everywhere- and the many steep hills gave us quite the workout!

A quick Starbucks break later, and we ventured further afield to an old fort and park, with incredible views across the city.

We stuck to the oldest part of the city, as it was too picturesque to leave, and it was closest to our hotel. However, we did venture further afield one day, and walked around the part of the city with a more modern "cityish" feel.

Other notable trips from Quebec include the island just outside the city, _____, which, driving around it, feels like you are smack dab in the middle of the English or French countryside, and Mount Morency waterfall.

Quebec, and Canada in general, I've found, is like the perfect mix between America and Europe, bringing together the two worlds with ease. As for the language barrier in Quebec, not a worry at all, as I heard just as much English and other languages as French. I studied French in school, but am proficient at best, and I was completely fine, even able to carry on a few (very short) conversations in French!

Have you ever visited Quebec? If so, what was your favorite part?
